The first game will always be better but this one is still a great game that’s definitely worth playing. A Spider-Man 2 trailer with an extended gameplay demonstration was revealed during the latest PlayStation Showcase. The 10-minute video highlighted how players will switch between Peter and Miles in the game, and their new combat abilities, including a fiendish Symbiote suit that grants Peter some aggressive new powers.
A Flawed Port Of A Flawed Sequel
Peter chooses to save everyone else, which leads to a tearful goodbye from his loved one. Otto Octavius later turns into Doc Ock and frees Mr. Negative, Electro, Vulture, Rhino and Scorpion to form the Sinister Six. Doc Ock takes the Devil’s breath and releases it in Times Square, also infecting Aunt May. While Mary Jane informs Peter of the location of the cure, Spider-Man is forced to build a new armored suit in order to defeat Doc Ock, who has beaten Spider-Man and taken Osborn and the cure. Marvel’s Spider-Man shows a more experienced Peter Parker than we usually see, as he’s been Spider-Man for around 8 years already at this point.
Gameplay

While its arrival in the PC space has been to the delight of many gamers, the gameplay experience has been marred by poor performance in addition to the numerous bugs, graphical issues, and crashes players are currently experiencing. The story swings just as elegantly between upbeat hijinks and solemn moments of reflection.

Despite a couple of new tricks up its sleeve, Spider-Man 2’s combat is very familiar – it doesn’t have that new suit smell anymore, but it still feels incredibly comfy to slip back into. The rhythm of precision dodges, the new perfect parries (so you’re not only swerving and striking now), and acrobatic finishers are hugely satisfying, as is chasing high-hit combos to keep the fight as stylish as possible. The movement is smooth and the hits are crunching, like some sort of peanut butter hybrid that every one of your foes is allergic to.
With the small exception of a Mister Negative boss fight, but he doesn’t do anything until that point. And I applaud them for trying to use new characters; however, it came at the cost of a cohesive universe. It takes a very long time for Venom to show up, some would say too long, but he steals the show the second he does. Everything he does is intimidating, and you feel the power behind every movement.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a fantastic superhero adventure that builds upon the strengths of its predecessors. While the PC port has experienced some initial technical hiccups, Insomniac’s responsiveness and the overall quality of the game shine through. Whether you’re swinging through New York on a high-end PC or enjoying the portable thrills on the Steam Deck, this game is a must-play for any Spider-Man fan.
